'Unremembered Acts' series - colour palette exploration

Work in progress Oil on paper - I am enjoying my time at the Slade for the summer painting course. I am able to explore my own themes within my work whilst having the benefits of renewed focus on colour theory, composition and critique from fellow artists. It's helping me to reflect positively on my own practice.

My first day in the studio at the Slade School of Fine Art - 'Painting Course' summer school, UCL, London.

It's great to focus and reflect on my practice among fellow artists and receive critique and advice. I'm continuing to work on my recent themes whilst having access to new and exciting challenges.

Unremembered Acts series - 'Murmur' Continued - WIP

My obsession to create these landscapes continues. I find the work engrossing as I feel as though I am on a magical journey. I am now continuing to finish the third one in this series. Even when I feel unmotivated it's best to push through any negativity and I am rewarded with some of my better work.

Morning light in the studio - work in progress

The creative process can be like a roller coaster of changes to realise my composition. Sketching and drawing are key elements for me. Even when I think I've arrived more changes happen. I believe it's important to be open minded and to allow the work to develop and take you on a mystery tour.

'Unremembered Acts' series - 'Breath' Oil on canvas

This painting is part of a series of three. This first one is based on my visits to Chiswick House in London. I have re-imagined the landscape and created a dreamlike image. This work follows on from my previous works at Copped Hall in Epping. These 18th century estates captured my imagination and creativity.

Garden sketches today - Charcoal and watercolour

I'm back from a break in Spain. No palm trees here sadly but just wanted to sketch a couple of areas of the garden here in London. There's a big old tree that fascinates me. I'll return to my canvases tomorrow.

To the New World? Charcoal and watercolour

It's my last day here in Barcelona and this little sketch contains some ideas and thoughts for a bigger painting.
I've got three canvases waiting for me back in my studio in London - exciting!

Sketches of old town/ideas - Sitges Barcelona

It's a great discipline for me to sketch whilst away visiting new places. I find that the charcoal provides immediacy and a limited colour palette helps to capture the feel of the location. The light here is incredibly intense and my paint dried very quickly in the sun.
It's important to see the initial mark making.

Sketching day in the sunshine, in the garden - London.
It's great to just observe and draw and colour and think about the spaces in between.
