Here you will find a series of notebooks with my thoughts from my work in progress
Laying down some colour on this new work for E17arttrail 'Value' series - work in progress.
Charcoal on paper.
I'm taking part in the E17arttrail in June 2024. It provides an opportunity for artists to display their work in venues around the Walthamstow area in London.
The theme is 'Value' so I am working around some figure drawings of my partner, my sister and her husband who are featured in this picture.
Preparatory drawings - Charcoal on paper
Landscape based on recent visit to the gardens at Hever Castle in Kent.
The building is partly based on a Victorian folly from Copped Hall in Epping, (near my home in London). These motifs appear at intervals in my work. They compliment my interests in romantic poetry and the idea of the pathetic fallacy particularly with regards to notions of decay and ruin.
'...For I have learned,
To look on nature, not as in the hour
Of thoughtless youth; but hearing oftentimes
The still sad music of humanity...'
(William Wordsworth - Lines composed a few miles above Tintern Abbey - 1798)
